I have a question: I bought a bridesmaid dress for a wedding I'm in. the problem is, that I'm 5'10'' and the dress that I am "required" to wear is too short. All the other bridesmaids look great and then there is me with a dress that hits me above my ankle. How do I make my dress longer? Any suggestions on what I could do as options? thanks.

Loved your site, I was reserching bussels for wedding dresses and came accross your site. It was very informative. I too make custom wedding dresses and alterations, and couldn't understand why the bridal shops were charging so much to do a bussel, I thought I was doing them wrong, but I learned I was not. Deb, Thanks so much for the instructions on how to bustle my wedding dress. I was charged $200 for alterations for the dress, but when they said $250 for the bustle I was speachless. Thank you so much for your great site. I made my wedding gown 25 years ago and now I'm making my daughters. Hers needs to be bustled up whereas mine was a simple loop that pulled out from behind an applique and went around my wrist. Her gown does not have any instuctions on how to bustle it or carry it at the reception. So a big Thank you from a Mom who is trying to do the best for her girl. I've sewed for her from the time she was born until her prom and now this...I don't want to mess this one up!

As posted on the weddingchannel.com message boards: Wow, what a find! I found this resource by lurking on this site and seeing her work for 2 other brides. I bought the material myself from Dharma Trading Co., then emailed back and forth with sewdeb until we decided on a style. I sent her pics of my dress and she helped me determine the fabric and style that would be best. She did exactly what I wanted and shipped it to me and I loved it. I was not in any sort of hurry so we took our time, but I’ve heard that she can do some quick work if you need it. Her price was reasonable, and she was incredibly easy to work with.

I ended up with chapel length silk tulle veil, and it was perfect! Sewdeb also duplicated a hair ornament that I had seen in a recent "In Style" Wedding magazine. I wasn't thrilled with the veils I was seeing in the stores for a number of reasons. I'm short (not even 5'1) so none of the lengths looked right on me. Also, I just was not a big fan of the look, feel or puffiness of tulle. I was not about to spend the $400-500 it would cost for me to get a silk tulle veil from a bridal shop either so I was sort of at a loss. So, I got SewDeb's name from a review on liweddings.com. I emailed her and told her what I was thinking (simple, flowy material, single tier, hip length since i have a drop waist gown). She was so unbelievably helpful and responsive. I just received my veil on Thursday and I cannot tell you how happy I am. It is exactly what I wanted! And, I got a custom veil for about 80% off of the store prices! So, any bride that is looking for her veil, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND SewDeb.

I emailed sewdeb on 4//21/04 just 4 weeks before my actual wedding and just a few days before my hair trial. I sent her a picture of a veil I loved. The other people could not get it to me till 15 days before my wedding. We would be leaving for the wedding in just 21 days. That was just to close for me. She said she could not only make it but could send it to me ASAP. So she made it and sent it all in one day. The bonus was it was right in my price range. Sew Deb is a perfect angel. I sooooooo wanted a silk tulle veil like Sophie Rhys Jones and couldn't find the perfect one (without spending HUGE $$$$$$ and my wedding is this month and I had no veil in sight *wah*) so I contacted SewDeb and we got the silk tulle shipped directly to her from the UK and TODAY I got my most breathtaking, veil, carefully packaged and shipped so there would be no disappointment. SewDeb saved my wedding! Well, not quite, but almost! When the cape I had ordered from another vender failed to show up two weeks before the wedding, SewDeb made me a cape and got it before the wedding! It was perfect, much nicer than the one I had originally ordered. And then- one of my bride's maids had a hospital stay and had a lot of blood work done in her arm one week before the wedding. SewDeb made wraps for my four bride's maids and shipped them to me! Thanks Debbie!! :-D
